Repeteren voor de werkelijkheid (English below)
Als LABO vzw een sociaal laboratorium is, dan zijn de medewerkers 'sociaal laboranten'. Als facilitator van groepsprocessen creëren we een veilige ruimte. Een ruimte waarin we groepen begeleiden om de uitdagingen waarmee ze geconfronteerd worden te analyseren en van antwoord te voorzien. Wat we doen met groepen, moet deelnemers individueel en collectief voorbereiden op wat ze nadien in de buitenwereld gaan doen.
Tijdens onze workshops mogen deelnemers fouten maken. Ze krijgen tijd en ruimte om te ervaren, om te experimenteren. In de 'echte' wereld worden fouten soms al snel genadeloos afgestraft. We willen groepen vooral helpen een verschil te maken in die echte wereld. Door hen te versterken, een stem te geven of strategieën te ontwikkelen waarbij ze zelf motor van sociale verandering worden.
Dit werk is ook voor ons een leerproces. Als je niets leert van de groep waarmee je als facilitator aan de slag gaat, dan is de kans dat jij hen iets bijbrengt ook bijzonder klein. Dit leerproces is een constante dialoog. Via deze blog willen we reflecteren over ons werk. Over wat we doen, wat we leren, wat ons sterkt of net doet twijfelen. De blog is digitale poot van ons sociaal laboratorium: een extra ruimte waar we jullie uitnodigen met ons in dialoog te gaan.
Zoals Augusto Boal zegt: ons werk is een repetitie voor de werkelijkheid. En die werkelijkheid hopen we te veranderen, repetitie na repetitie…

Rehearsing Reality
If LABO vzw is a social laboratory, then we can see our team as 'social laborants'. As a facilitator of group work we need to create a safe space, in which we guide groups through a process in which they explore the challenges they are confronted with. Our work prepares participants individually and collectively for what they will be doing afterwards in real life.
It's okay to make mistakes during our workshops. Participants should get both the time and the space to experience and experiment. In the 'real' world mistakes often have harsh consequences. Our job is to help groups making a difference in this real world. We do this by empowering participants, by giving them a voice or by developping strategies for them to become a catalyst for social change.
Doing this work is experiential learning for us as well. When you don't learn anything of the people you work with, there's only little change that you will transfer anything useful to them. Learning in our approach is a never ending dialogue. On this blog we will connect some reflections on our work. What are we doing? What do we learn? What strengthens us or raises doubts?
This blog is part of our social laboratory. It is one more space where we hope to invite you to engage with us in a meaningful dialogue.
As Augusto Boal says: our work is a rehearsel for reality. And we hope to change that reality, one rehearsel at a time.
